While some people might sing I Left My Heart In San Francisco, others might say that they left their heart in the entire state of California. If you've already been to this magnificent state, you probably decided at your first visit that you would be returning often. If you are visiting California for the very first time, you are more than likely going to want to return often. From traditional tourist sights to out-of-the-way attractions, here are some ideas that might enhance your stay in heaven on earth.

How Will You Be Traveling? - If you will be driving to California, you've got it made, as you'll be able to reach most of your destinations easily. If you're flying, you will more than likely want to rent a car. While parking might be a bit of a hassle, most of the places you will be visiting will be prepared for tourists, so you'll probably find good parking accommodations.

How Long Will You Be Staying? - Stay a year! Stay forever! No matter how long you're in California, you'll keep finding new places to go. Realistically, though, your time might be limited. Have you decided on focusing on just one city and the surrounding areas? Perhaps you have decided to visit San Diego where you can go to the famous San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, and the beach, and still be able to drive over to Anaheim to visit Disneyland. Or, maybe you've decided to visit the San Francisco area where you can take side trips to places like Monterey and Carmel.

Do You Want To Go On Tours? - Even if you have your own car, tours can be a great way to see out-of-the-way places. For example, a tour of the famous California wineries might turn out to be one of the highlights of your California adventure. Going on a wine tour with a guide means that you'll have somebody experienced and trained to drive you to the wineries. You'll have the opportunity to taste the different wines and compare flavors. You'll more than likely also learn a lot about wine, too. For example, when you get back home, you'll know exactly which wine to serve with different meals.

Think of buying gifts at the different places you go on your wine tours, too. If you purchase bottles of wine, they will be wrapped especially for safe traveling. Think about buying things like coffee table books and pretty wine glasses on your wine tours, too.
